Globally increasing awareness for the treatment without chemicals and interest for organic diet are two basic reasons for popularization of Ayurveda. It is important to make it clear that vision of looking on ayurveda as a system of treatment or a pathy is very poor and insufficient, more appropriately it is a complete philosophy or way of living. Basic materials of ayurveda like salt, sweet, wheat, rice, turmeric, ginger, peeper, coriander are integral part of our life from birth to death and not the chemicals in the tablets or capsules. Ayurvedic lifestyle, herbs, diet, Panchkarma and yoga has already started making a place for itself in the United States, countries of Europe and several other countries around the world. The earlier skepticism about it and the misconceptions of it being some thing akin to quackery is fast fading as more and more people and doctors themselves are now getting opportunities to have first hand experience of this system of medicine, nay a system of holistic approach towards health. The occidentalists take their own time in understanding many an eastern phenomenon because of their own strong notions of ‘scientific knowledge’ and ‘system’ and their over faith in their own knowledge and experience. Till the time they don’t fully understand any phenomenon they tend to dismiss it as some thing like magic, phony or quackery. However their recent first hand encounters with Ayurvedic system of holistic health has turned them on to take it seriously and learn and benefit from it. During my recent visit to Romania, where I was on an Ayurvedic teaching assignment, my experience of teaching 40 doctors, all of whom were allopathic graduates and specialists, got all the more spirited when I found that a good number of the Romanian doctors were already having very good knowledge of Ayurveda. Some of them were studying and practicing the Ayurveda for more than 15 years. Another factor which left deep mark on me was that they were sharing the knowledge of Ayurveda with Guru Shishya Parampara i.e teacher-taught tradition in their country without much help from Indian Ayurvedic experts until now. This is exactly the way by which wisdom of Ayurveda traveled from Guru Agnivesh to his disciple Acharya Charak and thus on. It therefore became all the more challenging and exciting in comparison to my previous three years of Ayurvedic teaching in Holland & Belgium. In fact Romanian doctors, because of their already sufficient knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine and practices provided me with a new challenge to teach and satisfy their highly professional queries in this regard. I must say here that there were many things which I gained from them. This happens when there is a teacher and in front of him there is a group of students highly keen and motivated to learn. It was an experience for me when I successfully explained to them the intricacies of Ayurveda in correlation with modern medicine and practices because of their medical background in allopathy. Another remarkable factor of this interaction is that these Romania doctors did a wonderful job by describing more than 250 Romanian herbs on Ayurvedic principles of Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka and Dosh Prabhava i.e. taste, property, potency, post digestive effect & effect on dosha.
